Figure drawing dump #06

Figure drawings - for progress reference. Still have a long way to go.

Figure drawing dump #05

Most of August I didn't end up drawing much, because I was busy animating my entry for the 11 Second Club competition. So when I finally got back to it after a few weeks of no drawing, I was glad to find I wasn't too rusty. Here's just a page to track my progress.

Figure drawing dump #04

So I've been a bit MIA with posting again... but I've been very consistently drawing so I've finally scanned in the last 3 or so weeks of stuff and will put more up when I find a chance.

In the meantime here's some figure drawing sketches to show my slow but nevertheless existent progress. I believe these were 60 secs a pop.

Figure drawing dump #03

Some more figure drawings. I've been doing a lot but they get quite repetitive so I thought I'd pick out a single page of ones I was happy with to show progress. These are 60 second sketches. I'm slowly feeling more confident in speed drawing, and am finding over time I'm progressively adding more details (ie. I've noticed it really helps drawing a couple of lines to define the ribcage more obviously for certain poses).

Figure drawing dump #02

 Some more figure drawing...

Figure drawing dump #01

Found another great life drawing resource online, with photos of actual models rather than the 3D muscle models used at posemaniacs. It has timed drawings as well as "classes" that begin with quick gesture drawings and gradually building into longer poses. Pretty much the next best thing to an actual life drawing class.

I was happy that this had real people since I can focus more on general shapes of skin and flesh, with decent lighting.

Here's some of the sketches I've done using that tool; they vary in length of time drawing. Still got a long way to go, but it's a start.

"Die Another Day"

Die Another Day
Another self-portrait. This was also taken from a dance image. I think it could be a lot more dynamic with more exaggeration, rather than being a very literal illustration of the original image.

Monster

Some of my earlier sketches from recent drawing; poses from reference images that I thought had interesting movement to them.

"Trapped"

Since I started getting back into drawing, I've been doing a whole lot of figure drawing using the 30 Second Drawing tool at posemaniacs.com, which I've found really useful. Starting out I did mostly 60 second drawings, and over time have been getting more comfortable with faster ones.

But this isn't one of those figure drawings; I've also been doing one or two portraits using reference photos for each figure drawing session I do.

This particular drawing is the first of a few self-portraits I've done so far. The original image is taken from a video of a dance rehearsal for a contemporary piece I performed called Trapped. Did I mention I'm a dancer?
